Cable install methodology
LV cables in URD are installed in conduits via a mesh stocking attached to the cable end with a swivel and braided hauling line. The drum is mounted on a cable jinker which has spooling and recovery capabilities. Tension is controlled with a live readout sent from a loadcell mounted spindle on the guide wheel of the winch drum. Cable entry and exit of the conduits are through bell mouths and slippers. Conduits are preproven and pre-lubed before cable installation.
HV cables are installed as above with extra length left out at pole and transformer ends. Large drums with heavy weights eg. 10 tonne + are installed using a spindle controlled A Frame. This is set into place and has the drum lifted onto it by a crane. The conduits are pre-proved and pre-lubricated with heavy duty bellmouths fitted to conduit ends. Positive force via a hydraulic rotorstat controls the spindle and drum speed, which in turn removes the dead weight of the drum and cable. The controlled feed can dramatically drop pulling tensions and removes drum over run and any free spooling.
Cables into open trenches are installed using the Bond Pull Method which, along with a positive feed A Frame, reduce pulling tensions to near cable weight with the addition of evenly spaced cable rollers.

We can handle all trenching and laying of conduits for electrical works.
Isuzu FVR 950 cable truck with Palfinger PK 10 000 crane and Redmond Gary 6t cable jinker able to transport and install LV and HV (11Kv – 22kV) standard cables used on the Energy QLD distribution network.
- Locking pins to prevent drum movement
- Control Brake for uncontrollable drum movement
- 6t brake controller for trailer brakes
Redmond Gary 6.5t cable jinker used by Energy QLD, Aurizon and most contractors due to their quality and reliability from development over a
long period of time, QLD made for local requirements.
4WD Isuzu FTS 800 winch truck with 80kN winch fitted with 1100m of 22mm super braid rope and fairlead guide for the longest and heaviest cable pulls. A screen at the controls shows preprogramed speed and pulling tensions which are downloadable as a PDF.
- Closed in unit locked from the inside
- Step and hand rails
- Mesh guards to prevent unintended access
- Hydraulic cable legs for stabilisation whilst undertaking works
Machinery control unit monitors all aspects of the operation of the winch. Once any part of the system operates outside of set parameters its shuts down ensuring no damage to the machine.
- Machine control can be locked out
- Safety barriers to prevent flying objects hurting operator
Diagnostic computer monitoring all aspects of cable pull including meterage, tension and the speed; recordable and downloadable capabilities to PDF through USB.
